(1) There shall be a Parks and Recreation Board consisting of nine (9) members, each of whom shall be appointed to serve by the Mayor and with the advice and consent of the Municipal Council. Each member shall serve for three (3) years except that three (3) of the initial members shall be appointed to serve a term of one (1) year, and three (3) of the initial members shall be appointed to serve a term of two (2) years. Members appointed thereafter shall serve a term of three (3) years.

(2) The Parks and Recreation Board shall, by majority vote, select a chairperson and a vice-chairperson, each of whom shall serve for a period of one (1) year as provided in Chapter 2.20, Provo City Code.

(3) The Parks and Recreation Board shall meet at such times and places as may be necessary to discharge its duties and responsibilities.

(4) The Parks and Recreation Board shall advise the Mayor, Municipal Council and the Director of Parks and Recreation on policies and matters relating to park, cemetery and trail development and maintenance; planning and conducting of recreation activities and development of recreation facilities; the use, maintenance and promotion of City museums, landmarks and historic sites; and shall further:

(a) make periodic reviews of park and recreation facilities, City museums, programs and related services that are available to the public and recommend what additional facilities, programs and services may be needed;

(b) evaluate the quality of parks and recreation facilities, City museums, programs and related services provided by the City Parks and Recreation Department and recommend changes or improvements;

(c) aid in coordinating the use of parks, recreation facilities, City museums and related services with programs of other governmental agencies and voluntary organizations; and

(d) perform other duties as assigned to it by the Mayor from time to time.
